PLS-CADD Studies

Overhead transmission and distribution line design in PLS-CADD, covering route profiling, structure spotting, sag-tension and clearance checks for safe, cost-effective lines.

PLS-CADD Studies

Line engineering scope

  • New transmission and distribution lines
  • Uprating and reconductoring studies
  • Clearance and crossing verification
  • As-built modelling from survey and LiDAR
Overview

Accurate line design from terrain to tower

Overhead line costs are driven by the number and type of structures, while safety depends on correct clearances in every weather condition. Small design errors become expensive once towers are on the ground.

DCPS uses PLS-CADD to build a 3D model of the line route from survey or LiDAR data, then optimizes structure locations and heights, calculates sag and tension for every span and verifies clearances to ground, crossings and vegetation. Structure capacity checks are carried out with PLS-TOWER and PLS-POLE where required.

The result is an optimized, compliant design with drawings and schedules ready for construction.

Our Process

Our line design workflow

01

Data Gathering

Survey, LiDAR, conductor data and design criteria are compiled.

02

Model Setup

Terrain, criteria, weather cases and structure families are configured.

03

Design

Structures are spotted and sag-tension calculated for every span.

04

Verification

Clearances and structure loads are checked and the design optimized.

05

Outputs

Plan & profile drawings, stringing charts and material schedules.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What input data is required for a PLS-CADD design?

A route survey or LiDAR data, conductor and hardware details, structure types and the applicable design criteria and weather loads.

Can you analyse an existing line?

Yes. We model existing lines from survey or LiDAR to check clearances, assess uprating potential or plan reconductoring.

Which design standards do you follow?

We apply the client or utility specification along with standards such as IEC 60826 or NESC, as required by the project.

Do you provide stringing charts?

Yes, stringing charts are provided for each section so contractors can install conductors at the correct tension.
